Scholarship for 3rd edition of Asser-CSHR Online Summer Programme 'International Sport & Human Rights' 2024

The Centre for Sport and Human Rights (CSHR) is funding three scholarships for outstanding master students, PhD candidates, or civil society representatives to participate in the Online Summer Programme ‘International Sport and Human Rights’ 2024. The scholarship is open to candidates from underrepresented backgrounds, including but not limited to individuals from global majority, disadvantaged or marginalised communities. We encourage applicants who bring diverse perspectives and experiences to apply.

The course is organised by the Asser Institute in collaboration with CSHR and will run online from 22-24 and 27-29 May 2024. After the great success of the first and second editions, the programme returns, focusing on the link between the sport and human rights and zooming in on a number of topics, such as the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights and their application to human rights due diligence in sports. We will also adopt a human rights lens to sport governance, mega-sporting events and address contemporary topics such as gender equality, freedom of speech, the rights of athletes, sustainability, decolonisation and access to remedy.

Speakers from both academia and practice are included in the programme to ensure that participants can benefit from the right balance between theoretical knowledge and practical application and developments. The organisers are proud to welcome speakers and representatives from among others international sport governing bodies and federations, athlete representative groups, human rights organisations including CSHR, the Asser Institute, and other academic institutions. This programme is interactive and cutting edge and will offer the chance to engage in meaningful discussions, reflection exercises, and more.
