CSHR Scholarship For Asser Summer Course ‘The Governance Of Sport & Human Rights’

The Centre is funding a scholarship for an outstanding master student, PhD candidate, or civil society representative to participate in the Asser Institute’s summer course on ‘The governance of sport and human rights’. You can apply here.

The course is organized in collaboration with the Centre for Sport and Human Rights and FIFPro and will run from 5-9 September in The Hague. It will focus on the evolving sport and human rights movement, from a historical and recent perspective, zooming in on a number of current challenges underlying the link of sport and human rights, such as the human rights impacts of mega-sporting events (including Qatar and the upcoming women’s world cup), the rights of athletes in relation to freedom of expression or abuse, remedies for sport-related human rights harms, and more. 

Speakers from both academia and practice are included in the programme to ensure that participants can benefit from the right balance between theoretical knowledge and practical experience, and the organizers are proud to be welcoming representatives from FIFA, the Dutch football federation, Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, a representative from Caster Semenya's legal team and from civil society organizations like Amnesty International, the Sport and Rights Alliance, or the World Players Association. It will be an interactive programme, with exercises such as drafting a human rights policy and more.
